Misconceptions About Drinking Water And Countertop Water Filter Use

By Roxy Albright

There are many reasons people may or may not try out a countertop water filter or some other type. Companies like Pristine Water Purification and others make water filters that can remove quite a few types of contaminants from drinking water. But not everyone feels his or her drinking water needs extra protection. There's a lot of information out there about using filtration systems like a countertop water filter, but not all of it is accurate. This article will review at least three common misconceptions about water filter use.

First, we will address the misunderstanding that consuming bottled water is safer than consuming tap water. Second, we touch on the misconception that municipal water treatment can always protect your drinking water. Finally, we will talk about the mistaken idea that a countertop water filter or other system type does not do anything with tap water besides make it taste and smell differently.

As opposed to using a countertop water filter or other filter made by Pristine Water Purification or another company, some people choose to go with substitutes like drinking boiled or bottled water. People who do so hoping to drink better water than a tap can provide may be disappointed. Bottled water is actually usually not much better than tap water. Both bottled water and tap water in the United States are held to essentially the same government regulations. At least one study in the 90s found that some bottles of bottled water were in reality tap water.

Municipal facilities in the United States can generally offer drinking water that is safe to drink. However, relying entirely on the drinking water that is treated and filtered outside of your home could be a mistake. Industrial accidents or natural disasters are unkind to many otherwise trustworthy drinking water sources. Contaminants can be introduced to your water source if an unexpected accident or disaster occurs. Moreover, various metropolitan areas in the 90s like New York, Las Vegas, and Washington experienced waterborne illness outbreaks. Municipal water facilities can typically give you decent water, but they are not infallible.

Some folks feel that the only change to water run through a countertop water filter or another filter is that the smell and taste are changed. Filters have standards to meet based upon what they can extract from the water run through them. Filters actually remove various heavy metals, chemicals, and parasites along with bad tastes and odors. Some have suggested that tap water could contain above 2,100 differing contaminant types. Water filters are capable of removing many of the wide range of contaminants.

While many opt to go with various other valid solutions to the problems that tap water can have, a countertop water filter from companies such as Pristine Water Purification can definitely offer some benefits beyond some other solutions.
