Losing Weight With The Help Of Gastric Sleeve Surgeons

By Tammie Caldwell

Obesity is one of the leading health problems in America. Thus, to help in the solution of this problem, to at least reduce the number of obese Americans, gastric surgery is practiced. Particularly in Ridgewood, NJ, many patients have tried the procedure in order to lose weight. The process involves the operation of the stomach by cutting it to more than a half. This will be taken away and only a small portion is retained.

There are two options, open surgery or laparoscopic technique. These are both done by gastric sleeve surgeons in NJ. They have taken formal medical education and training before they are able to do this because this is such a sensitive procedure. There must also be proper diet in order to fulfill the promise of weight loss in the surgery.

During the recovery state, excretion of digested food happens quickly. Almost as quick as getting full. There will be a feeling of soreness in the cut and some stomach pains. Hence, there should be pain relievers on hand. The doctor prescribes this to the patient.

Another thing is that it may cause diarrhea. Often, especially during the first week, there will be a feeling of faintness and nausea. Doctors advice not to do heavy exercises after an open surgery. After around one to three months, daily routine and some light exercises can be done. But many prefer the laparoscopic approach wherein they can recover more quickly.

You may be advised to get a dietitian as they will help you get more nutrients in your food intake. You have to watch your diet by making a diet meal plan per day which will be taught to you by your dietitian. There is a possibility that you will not lose weight at all especially if you will take in foods that are high in calories.

You need to keep watch of your diet. If you will still keep on drinking soda and other high calorie drinks, there is a possibility that you will still not lose weight, which will throw away your aim. In addition, if you force yourself to eat the same amount of food you used to eat, tendency is your tummy will stretch and that will defeat the aim of the surgery.

It is a great idea to consult a nutritionist or dietitian. You will not be able to take in a lot of nutrients so they will help you out while you lose weight. They are the one who will recommend a perfect diet or nutrition plan so that you will be able to have a balanced diet.

You may still need supplements and vitamins even if you already have the tips from your nutritionist. The success if the surgery will depend on the patient. You will need to be very obedient. Follow the advices of your doctors religiously. And make sure that you are disciplined. Successful ones have lost half or more of their weight in a few months time.

There could be side effects as well. These are infections, clotting, and stomach leaking. Others develop anemia, gallstones, and even bone deficiencies.
